Firefighters Shuttle Water to Hillside House Fire in High Desert

The water was transported on a narrow mountain road after the property's water tank was depleted

Firefighters were forced to battle a house fire on a hillside in the windy high desert northeast of Los Angeles for more than four hours due to a problem with water supply.

Wind gusts up to 50 mph battered the area Tuesday night when firefighters arrived the ranch style single story single family house. The fire, first reported at about 10 p.m., destroyed the home in the 400 block of Desert Springs Road. It was previously owned by "Happy Days" star Erin Moran.

The property is equipped with a water tank, but that soon was depleted so firefighters shuttled water to the site on a narrow mountain road. The nearest hydrant was around one mile away.

No injuries were reported and a cause was not immediately determined.
