Five Injured in Suspected DUI Crash in Mid-City

Driver's vehicle reportedly went over median into opposite traffic.

Five people were injured in Mid-City after a car jumped a median and crashed into three vehicles going in the opposite direction on Wednesday.

The multi-vehicle accident was reported around 6 p.m. in the 5800 block of Venice Boulevard when a woman driving a Nissan Altima West bound side swiped a vehicle next to her and then veered over the median. The driver collided with vehicles in the East bound lanes, critically injuring three men and two women, including the driver, according to LAPD.

Four of the victims were transported to a hospital. The driver was also transported and underwent surgery for life threatening injuries. The driver of the Nissan Altima suffered the most serious injuries and had to be extricated from her vehicle, according to LAPD.

Police closed the East bound lanes of Venice Boulevard between Fairfax Avenue and Thurman Boulevard following the accident. The lanes were expected to be reopened around 1 a.m.

Investigators suspect the driver whose car jumped into opposite lanes may have been under the influence of drugs and alcohol, according to LAPD.

The condition of the crash victims was unknown.

The accident was under investigation.
