1 Killed, 4 Hurt in Crash at Doughnut Shop

A woman was killed and four other people were injured in a crash at a doughnut shop in Gardena on Tuesday, police said.

The crash happened at 7:20 p.m. at the Donut King, 15032 Western Ave., where a BMW collided with a white car carrying a family of three, Gardena Police Department investigators said.

Aerial footage captured by NewsChopper4 showed the white car partially inside the shop.

Benjamin Favela, who works nearby, rushed to the crash site to help the victims.

"There was a male driving, a female passenger side and a child in the back," Favela said. "He was trying to get the passenger's attention. She was unconscious, she was not responding or anything. The little boy was crying in the back."

Gardena police officers at the scene identified the woman who died as a 30-year-old Huntington Park resident. Her name was not released.

The woman's husband and child were taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. The driver of the BMW and a doughnut shop worker were also hospitalized.

The severity of the victims' injuries was not immediately known.

Officers advised drivers to avoid Marine and Western avenues.
