Flooded Streets of Fairfax District Spark DWP Investigation

In total, four broken pipes in the Fairfax District of Los Angeles have caused major headaches for Department of Water and Power officials and residents alike.

A string of back-to-back water main breaks in a popular area of Southern California has raised concerns with officials as to whether or not the series of broken pipes are associated with one another.

In total, four broken pipes in the Fairfax District of Los Angeles have caused major headaches for Department of Water and Power officials and residents alike.

"This is being investigated," a DWP representative said.

The streets of West Hollywood were flooded Sunday morning when a pipe burst in the 1100 block of North Formosa Avenue sending thousands of gallons of water rushing down the pavement.

One resident said it was like 'The Poseidon Adventure' outside his home. At least four businesses and six vehicles were damaged by a gushing tide of H2O.

A little more than 24 hours later and less than three miles away, another break happened in the 8300 block of West 4th Street in the Beverly Grove neighborhood. LADWP officials worked through the evening to fix the fractured pipe.

Fast forward to the next morning and a short walk away, a "colossal" of a water main break flooded the streets of the same Beverly Grove area Tuesday in the 8300 block of Blackburn Avenue.

The broken 6-inch main shot a geyser of water into the air, causing a sinkhole and flooding streets. Residents described hearing a rumbling sound.

In the most recent of breaks, a 4-inch pipe burst Wednesday morning in the 6700 block of North Crescent Heights Boulevard, again in the Beverly Grove area. Crews worked through the dark morning hours to fix the break, that again, sent a torrent of gushing water through the streets.

Officials continued to look into the aging infrastructure Wednesday and determine if there was any connection between the fractures.
