Foggy Day Keeps Memorial Day Beach Crowds at Bay

Cooler temperatures kept the Memorial Day beach crowd manageable for Orange County lifeguards, who were warning about strong rip currents and the increase in the number of stingrays in shallow waters Monday.

Lifeguards at Huntington Beach reported 3- to 4-foot surf and fair conditions Monday afternoon.

A southerly swell was expected to bring dangerous rip currents to the water at Los Angeles and Orange County south-facing beaches.

Lifeguards on Monday treated nearly 50 beachgoers who had been stung by stingrays at Bolsa Chica State Beach.
