Free: Bacon Cupcake Valentine's Giveaway

Mark the sweetest holiday with a semi-savory treat, at The Oinkster.

Sugar-fancy, icing-laden confections have long been a staple of Valentine's Day, from the heart-shaped boxes of chocolates to the cakey centerpieces that arrive at the end of our special meals out.

But there's no rulebook anywhere that specifically states that those special sweets need to fall strictly on the non-savory side of the eating-out equation. You can have a Valentine's Day cocoa truffle that has a zing of habañero to it, green chile can appear in an apple pie, and kale can help deepen a cake's batter.

And, yes, bacon can cameo inside a cupcake. When that cupcake is free, and it happens to be Valentine's Day, and you can pick one up and nosh upon it with your honeybun, well, so much the better. (And, no, the two of you don't need to bicker about what can and can't go in a cupcake, because many ingredients and add-ins work just fine.)

So what's the deal? Farmer John is pairing up with The Oinkster in Hollywood for a noontime bacon cupcake giveaway on Sunday, Feb. 14.

Those zingy treats are free, and this is a "while supplies last" kind of deal, so they could go in a jif, if bacon buffs and cupcake mavens happen to be out in full post-brunch, dessert-craving force.

The hashtag, because, yes, there is a hashtag? #BaconLovesYouBack

The cupcakes, by the by, are chocolate bacon, with a salted caramel buttercream frosting.

There are bacon festivals to come around Southern California over the summer months, and plenty of taverns and bars serve up Bloody Marys complete with strips of bacon all year long, but Valentine's Day is about the chocolate, the cake, the end-of-meal goodie.

That the goodie contains a breakfast table staple adds some salty zing to the treat, and the pay-nothing part of the outing to The Oinkster is kind on the pocketbook, which Valentine's Day is sometimes not.
