Westbound 101 Fwy Reopened in Valley Village Nearly 5 Hours After Crash, Fuel Spill

Some 75 gallons of fuel were spilled on the westbound 101 Freeway when a cement truck crashed Saturday morning, forcing all westbound lanes to close for nearly five hours in Valley Village.

A cement truck flipped on its side around 9:23 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Fire officials estimated that a "couple gallons" of fuel reached a storm drain before firefighters put up barriers "to contain the spill."

All westbound lanes were closed west of Laurel Canyon Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A SigAlert was issued at 9:37 a.m. and was extended twice Saturday. Around 1:30 p.m., two of the lanes were reopened.

The California Highway Patrol said all lanes were reopened early Saturday afternoon at 2:07.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department's HazMat team responded to evaluate the situation.
