Police on Wednesday night said the man suspected of abducting a female bicyclist in Fullerton is the girl's relative who'd found the young runaway and was taking her home.

A witness told police they'd seen a man driving a silver Chevy HRR grab the girl around 7:30 p.m. as she was riding a bicycle near the southwest corner of Euclid Street and Orangethorpe Avenue (map).

Authorities combed areas in Fullerton and Anaheim for hours before discovering that the driver had been searching for the girl, who'd apparently run away from home.

The girl's bicycle -- a light-colored beach cruiser -- was found at the scene. Investigators said both the man and the girl appeared to be safe.
