Gang Member Sentenced to Prison in Shooting Death of Youth Pastor

A gang member was sentenced to 34 years and four months in state prison for the shooting death of a youth pastor in Pomona.

Arvin Benson, 29, of Pomona, pleaded no contest Tuesday to one count of voluntary manslaughter for the Nov. 11, 2013, shooting death of Daniel Diaz, along with two counts of attempted murder involving two others who were not struck by the gunfire.

Benson also admitted gang and gun allegations, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office

Diaz, 33, was sitting in a vehicle with two others at a stop sign when he was shot at the intersection of Mayfair and Park avenues.

Benson was charged in September 2015 and has remained behind bars since then.
