A 10-year-old girl was killed and her father is in critical condition suffering from smoke inhalation due to a fire at their home in Cypress Park Saturday, where a firefighter also was injured battling the blaze.
Paramedics also took the girl's mother, a 10-year-old relative, a 9- year-old and a 5-year-old to area hospitals for evaluation for minor injuries, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Firefighters were called at 4:30 a.m. to the 3300 block of North Thorpe Avenue and found a one-story home well involved with fire, according to Amy Bastman of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Firefighters immediately searched the home and found the 10-year-old girl, who was quickly taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead, Bastman said.
A total of 29 firefighters needed just 14 minutes to extinguish the blaze, Bastman said.
The firefighter was injured when a vehicle ran over a hose line, and was taken to a hospital in unknown condition, Bastman said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
