A woman and a 5-year-old boy were killed Wednesday on the Hollywood (101) Freeway in a crash that also left an 11-year-old girl with minor injuries, authorities said.

The accident occurred around 1 a.m. on the southbound lanes, south of Sunset Boulevard, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The 1999 Volkswagen Cabriolet convertible flipped over the guardrail on the right shoulder of the freeway, plunging onto the Sunset Boulevard onramp, the CHP reported.

Anel Slagoski, 31, and James Slagoski died at the scene, said Craig Harvey of the coroner's office. Authorities could not immediately confirm whether they were mother and son or otherwise related.

An 11-year-old girl was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries, the CHP reported. Her name was not released. All were from Whittier, the CHP reported.

The car was heading south in the No. 3 lane at about 60-65 mph when the driver "drifted into the No. 4 lane and over-corrected to the left, causing the Volkswagen to travel out of control to the right, where it struck the guardrail," the CHP reported in a statement.

The boy, who was sitting in the left rear seat, was ejected, the CHP reported. The No. 3 and 4 southbound lanes along with the onramp were shut down for roughly three hours to accommodate the investigation.
