Goats Graze in Neighborhood After Escape

Deputy Aaron Scheller discovered a herd of 60-70 goats running southbound on Fallow Field Drive, and nibbling on residents’ front lawns

One deputy was put to the test when around 70 goats were spotted running down a street in Diamond Bar Wednesday morning.

During his morning shift, Deputy Aaron Scheller discovered a herd of 60 to 70 goats running southbound on Fallow Field Drive, while some nibbled on residents’ front lawns, Sergeant Byron Ward said.

Over 200 goats were brought in to clear an "open field of dry overgrown brush and grass," but “sometime during the night, they hatched their escape plan by pushing over a perimeter fence,” a statement released by the Walnut Diamond Bar Sheriff’s Station read.

Scheller used his "training and experience... to corral the goats in the front yard of a residence, turn them around and herd them back to a nearby open field," according to the statement.

Ward said Scheller likely used his vehicle to block their path, and his horn to move them back toward the field. Two hours later, all of the goats had been captured and returned.
