Who better to mastermind a series of crimes than a ex-police officer?

David R. Reeves, former Riverside police officer, is expected to be arraigned Friday following a string of armed robberies at local AutoZones.

The defendant was caught Oct. 14 after allegedly trying to rob a Moreno Valley AutoZone…for the second time in five days.

Officers handcuffed him and then handed him his pink slip. The day after his arrest, he was terminated from the Riverside police force after seven years on the job.

"These alleged crimes are extremely serious," said Riverside police Sgt. Jaybee Brennan shortly after Reeves was charged. "Quite frankly, if the allegations are true, nobody here will be standing by him. A lot of people are upset. It's a shock."

The first robbery occurred Oct. 9 at the Moreno Valley AutoZone, according to a criminal complaint. He is also accused of robbing an AutoZone in south Riverside, as well as robbing two individuals at that location of their possessions.

The 28 year old ex-cop is now charged with four counts of armed robbery, two counts of attempted armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, attempted kidnapping, burglary, being in possession of stolen property and multiple allegations of using a gun in the commission of a felony.

He's being held in lieu of $500,000 bail. If convicted on all counts, Reeves could face more than 30 years in prison.
