Crash Witness Rescues Wrong-Way Driver From Burning Car

The driver was possibly under the influence, according to the CHP.

A woman driving in the wrong direction on the 210 Freeway was rescued Thursday night by another driver after her vehicle crashed and burst into flames, authorities said.

The crash occurred after the California Highway Patrol received several reports around 10:05 p.m. about an SUV quickly traveling eastbound in a westbound lane of the 210 Freeway near Carnelian Street in Rancho Cucamonga, according to the CHP.

Another driver saw the vehicle crash into the center divider and burst into flames at the westbound Beech Street HOV on-ramp, according to the CHP. The man stopped and exited his vehicle, and jumped over the center divider attempting to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher, according to the CHP.

The witness and two CHP officers pulled the female driver out of the vehicle.

Authorities were investigating if the woman was driving under the influence, according to the CHP.

The woman was transported to a hospital where she was treated for minor injuries. The rescuer was treated at the scene for minor cuts to his hands and arms, according to the CHP.

None of the officers were injured.
