Danilo Morales (pictured) was shot and killed Jan. 9 after running to his grandfather's side during a robbery attempt in North Hollywood.
Three men accused in the shooting death of a 24-year-old man who came to the defense of his grandfather during a Sun Valley robbery are scheduled for arraignment Wednesday in a Van Nuys courtroom.
Edwin Alexander Bonilla, 27, Evin Adonis Ortiz, 22, of Valley Glen, and Rene Ramirez, 29, of Mission Hills, are charged with one count of murder, attempted murder, assault with a firearm and second-degree robbery in connection with the Jan. 9 shooting death of 24-year-old Danilo Estuardo Morales.
The murder charge includes the special circumstance allegation of murder during the commission of a robbery.
Ramirez, the alleged gunman, also was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon.
Morales' 68-year-old grandfather, Manuel Flores, had just pulled into the driveway of a home Jan. 9 in the 8100 block of Coldwater Canyon Avenue when he was approached by the three suspects, according to authorities. Flores called for help as the robbers fled with his wallet and jewelry, according to investigators.
Morales chased the three men, who sped away in a sport-utility vehicle. One of the men shot Morales in the head near Willard Street and Coldwater Canyon Avenue, according to investigators.
The grandfather was not injured.
