A Lancaster family reacts after thieves swiped gifts and other items from their home. Jacob Rascon reports for the NBC4 News at Noon on Wednesday Dec. 25, 2013.
The Arroyo family had an unexpected and unpleasant discovery early Wednesday morning when they discovered thieves took most of the family’s Christmas presents, including two new scooters and two new tablets.
A 48-inch TV, jewelry, and a gun were also stolen, but those were not part of the gifts swiped from under the family's Christmas tree.
The burglars forced their way into the home through a sliding class door when the family was out. The family discovered the theft around 1 a.m. when they returned home from a Christmas Eve party.
Upon the discovery, the family’s 13-year-old daughter Emily was in tears, saying that that the crime ruined her Christmas. The family's other children are ages 9, 5 and 4.
"My neighbor said they saw the bathroom light on, they thought it was us, but it wasn’t us," Emily said, while holding back tears. "Why would (burglars) do this to little kids?"
The burglars also went upstairs and took jewelry, watches and a gun.
The thieves left a few gifts behind, leaving each child with at least one present.
