Gunman Sought in Fatal Shooting in Redondo Beach

Police were searching for a shooter who killed a man and wounded a second man after a fight in a Redondo Beach crosswalk.

The drama began at 4 p.m. when police responded to a call of a possible gunshot victim near Inglewood and Marine avenues. The shooting happened when someone tried to break up a fight between two people in a crosswalk, police said.

Eduardo Sanchez thinks he heard a total of six gunshots.

"I heard the first gun shot," he said. "It went off ... boom! Then you hear, boom! boom! I armed myself and I ran out went to see what the commotion was about."

On the ground at the Arco station across the street he found a young man shot in the stomach, alive. He said someone was desperately trying to help the other young man who was killed.

"He was slapping him on the face," Sanchez said. "He was screaming to him to wake up or something."

Sgt. Shawn Freeman, a Redondo Beach Police Department spokesman, said police were not sure why the fight started or why they were fighting.
