Hundreds Gather to Celebrate Life of Teen Couple Killed in Hacienda Heights Crash

Hundreds gathered Saturday to celebrate the life of a teen couple who was killed in a tragic car accident earlier this month in Hacienda Heights.

The celebration was held at Calvary Chapel in Montebello in honor of George Steward II and Sabrina Castillo who were killed on Oct. 18 when their truck was struck by a speeding car.

"It's probably one of the hardest few weeks in my life," said Sabrina's uncle Brandon Castillo. "Children aren't suppose to die."

The pair, both 18, had recently graduated from Los Altos High School, where George played football and Sabrina was a member of the water polo team. Family and friends said the high school sweethearts were best friends, and always together.

"It's hard tough to believe someone like that just passed away so suddenly without reason," said Michael O'toole, a friend of George.

On the night of the crash, the two were on a date headed to Knott's Scary Farm.

The California Highway Patrol said a speeding Lexus went airborne off of the 60 Freeway near South 7th Avenue and struck the couple's truck. The impact was so intense, the pickup truck's roof was ripped off. The teen couple died at the scene.

George had started at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut and Sabrina at Citrus College in Glendora.

Family, friends and well wishers took to the podium to share stories and memories of the two who were known for their kind hearts and deep love for each other.

"Knowing she's in heaven with the love of her George puts me at peace," said Brandon Castillo.

The family will hold private services for the couple next week.
