Investigators are attempting to determine whether two hammer attacks this month are connected to similar assaults earlier this year.
The two most recent attacks occurred in Boyle Heights at Grande Vista Avenue, south of Union Pacific, on July 9 and at New Jersey and Savannah streets on July 21.
The victim in the July 9 attack was assaulted after approaching a man who was looking through his items under a bridge. The man was struck in the head several times, losing consciousness before he was hospitalized.
In the July 21 case, a person was a dog was struck from behind in the head with a hammer. That victim also was hospitalized.
Both injuries were not considered life threatening.
A witness described the attacker as a White male with long brown hair, black baseball cap, gray flannel shirt and carrying a backpack.
A man and a woman were injured in separate attacks March 25 in the East Los Angeles area. A $15,000 reward was offered for information about the attacks.
