Electronic Device Checks Now Underway on All US-Bound Flights from Mexico

All passengers who are on US-bound flights from Mexico are advised to show up to the airport three hours before their flight due to this new security measurement.

Mexico's Ministry of Communications and Transportation have implemented a new security measure regarding all direct flights into the United States.

Effective July 19, 2017, there will be extra effort to review all passengers' electronic devices, per request by the US Department of Homeland Security.

This applies to any portable electronic device larger than a cell phone, such as laptops and tablets. The push for this extra security comes just a few weeks after the DHS announced it will obligate any US-bound flights to have these checks.

Passengers should expect to wait longer under this new requirement and are advised to show up to the airport three hours before their flight, according to the Mexican ministry.

They also advise to carry as few electronic devices as possible to prevent adding an additional wait time. Each device is subject to examination and must be presented without any protection or covers.

Passengers are expected to separate their large electronic devices separate from their carry-on for a swift security check.
