Historic Railroad Depot Destroyed by Fire in Long Beach

Long Beach authorities say an historic railroad depot that was undergoing renovation has been destroyed in a fire.

Fire department spokesman Jake Heflin says nobody was hurt in the blaze reported around 2:30 a.m. Friday on the grounds of Willow Springs Park.

City News Service reports the structure, built in 1907, had recently been moved to the park and was going to be used as a visitors center.

Previously it had served as a Southern Pacific Railroad depot.

It took crews about an hour to knock down the flames.

The fire's cause is under investigation.

NBC4's Patrick healy contributed to this report.
