Police on Sunday were searching for a driver of an SUV who sheared a pole that knocked out power to a neighborhood in San Pedro.

The incident occurred at 3 a.m. at West 11th Street and South Pacific Avenue, said Lt. E. Holyfield at the Los Angeles Police Department Harbor Station.

Someone in a black sport utility vehicle struck a utility pole, knocking down power lines.

Power was out for several hours in the area, police said.

It did not appear there were injuries, although police could not be certain since the SUV driver fled, he said.
