Two Hit-and-Run Drivers Kill Pedestrian in Atwater Village

One of the vehicles involved is believed to be a Kia or Hyundai with damage on the left side.

Police are looking for two hit-and-run drivers that left a pedestrian dead in Atwater Village Thursday night.

The collisions occurred on Riverside Drive just south of Fletcher Drive at approximately 10 p.m. The man was crossing the street when he was struck by a car traveling southbound on Riverside Drive, according to LAPD.

He was then struck by a second vehicle and dragged a short distance, police said.

Both drivers left the scene without stopping to identify themselves or render aid. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The brutality of this tragedy is felt deeply by our community. The senselessness of this death is compounded by the fact that a second driver struck the victim and also fled the scene," Assemblyman Mike Gatto said in a statement Friday.

Last month, Gatto introduced legislation that would increase penalties for people who leave the scene of a crash.

"Our community will not stand for the reckless disregard of human life. My thoughts and prayers go out to the victim and his family," Gatto said.
