Home's Roof Damaged by Fallen Tree, Police Suspect Rain-Saturated Soil

A tree toppled into a home in Highland Park Sunday morning, taking down power lines with it, police said.

The homeowner was not in the home at the time, according to a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman, but was notified and allowed to retrieve belongings from the home, located near the intersection of Armdale and Lincoln avenues.

The tree damaged the home's roof at about 2:40 a.m., though the cost of the damage was unknown. Police suspected the tree fell because rain had saturated the soil, but the investigation was ongoing.

The LA Department of Water and Power was asked to shut off power to the downed power lines, police said.
