Hostage Taken in Standoff at Palms Metro PCS Store

A cell phone store owner was taken hostage Friday night when a robbery suspect took over the shop in Palms and barricaded the two inside.

The suspect took one person hostage just after 6 p.m. in the 9600 block of Venice Boulevard, according to LAPD.

Initial reports indicated two people had been taken hostage, but that was later revised.

Police said the store owner was injured and was later treated.

A marijuana dispensary located next door evacuated its employees as the standoff continued.

Witnesses said the employees and a security guard from the dispensary also helped provide information that helped officers during the standoff.

The standoff ended around 9 p.m. when the suspect was taken into custody by SWAT officers.
