Home Explosion Critically Injures Man in North Hollywood

At least two people were injured Wednesday, one critically, in an explosion at a North Hollywood home.

Firefighters were sent to the 6700 block of North Simpson Avenue at about 8:45 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The critically injured person was taken to a hospital for treatment of burn injuries, the LAFD reported. The other person was treated at the scene for an unspecified injury.

The explosion might have been caused by a gas leak, according to an initial investigation. Authorities found fewer than a dozen marijuana plants inside the back unit of the duplex.

Building inspectors were notified to determine whether the house was safe to enter.

Power was out in the neighborhood after the blast.
