Residents Evacuated as Fire Burns Arcadia Apartment Complex

Residents were evacuated Thursday morning as a fire spread through an apartment complex in Arcadia, damaging more than a dozen residences.

The fire was reported at an apartment complex in the 800 block of Fairview Avenue. Fire burned through the building's roof and sent thick smoke above the San Gabriel Valley community.

Aerial video showed residents leaving the burning building as firefighters climbed to the sprawling complex's roof to attack the fire. Part of the roof collapsed during the firefight, forcing firefighters off the building

No injuries were reported, but about 40 people were displaced after 14 apartments were deemed uninhabitable.

The fire apparently started in the attic of the two story building, but a cause was not immediately determined.
