Man Hospitalized After Police Shooting in Huntington Beach

A man suffered non-life-threatening wounds when he was shot by Huntington Beach police officers in a residential area, authorities said Monday.

The altercation happened about 10:25 p.m. Sunday in the area of Beacon Hill Lane and Lawn Haven Drive, said Huntington Beach police Officer Jennifer Marlatt.

"Officers contacted a male and a female in the area," Marlatt said. "At some point during the contact an officer-involved shooting occurred."

The man was taken to a hospital with wounds not believed to be life-threatening, she said. The female was not injured and was detained for questioning.

"One officer sustained an injury during the incident and has been treated and released from the hospital," Marlatt said.

No details were available about what led to the shooting. The Orange County Sheriff's Department was handling the shooting investigation, said sheriff's Lt. Nathan Wilson.
