I-15 Motorists Face Las Vegas to L.A. Closure

Commuters heading from Las Vegas to Los Angeles face a traffic nightmare through Tuesday.

At 2:34 p.m. Monday CHP officers responded to a big rig collision involving two other vehicles on the southbound lanes of Interstate 15 Freeway between Baker and Barstow.

Caltrans cleanup could last well into Tuesday morning, said Darrin Cooke, spokesperson for Caltrans District 8. A hazardous waste removal vehicle was ordered to the scene but the nearest one was in Bakersfield.

Southbound freeway traffic was being diverted off Interstate 15 at Baker. Northbound lanes remained open Monday evening. Monday night traffic was backed up from Baker, CA to Primm, NV.

A tire reportedly blew on a big rig causing it to collide with a Jeep and a double fuel tanker.  A leak from the fuel tanker forced CHP officers to close southbound Interstate 15 lanes.

Earlier Monday a brush fire burning in the Cajon Pass forced the closure of several lanes of southbound Interstate 15. The Cajon Pass was reopened by 7 p.m.
