Mark Moore returned Tuesday to the site of the home he built about 25 years ago in Big Tujunga Canyon.

It was gone -- one of at least 60 homes destroyed in the Station Fire north of Los Angeles.

"The home has probably been here 25 years," Moore said. "We built it in 1985. I raised my kids here. It's kind of hard to say anything else."

Mark and wife Amanda spent part of the year in their cabin. The Hollywood pyrotechnician was one of the residents allowed to survey the damage in Big Tujunga Canyon.

Homeowners returned to the area with escorts. They were given 30 minutes to look through the debris.

"We figured we had another two or three days, but then it just happened all of the sudden," said David Andrews. "I lost everything that I had here."

The blaze north of Los Angeles was 22-percent contained Wednesday.

The fire has destroyed 62 homes and 27 other structures. It still threatens some 12,000 homes and 500 commercial buildings.
