Homicide detectives on Tuesday were investigating the death of a male inmate at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown Los Angeles, the L.A. County Sheriff's department said.

The department released no further information on the death, but City News Service reported that the inmate who died was 53 years old, and that the initial investigation did not seem to show that foul play had been involved.

Detectives learned of the death on Monday, the sheriff's department said.
