Irvine Blaze Caused by Illegal Fireworks

Firefighters were keeping a close eye on Irvine Regional Park today, where illegal fireworks started a blaze that burned 75 acres burned
on the Fourth of July.
By about 10 p.m. Sunday, firefighters had snuffed out the flames, thanks to three retardant-dropping planes and ground crews, some working with bulldozers.
The fire was 100 percent contained this morning, Capt. Greg McKeown of the Orange County Fire Authority said.
Investigators determined the caused of the fire, which broke out in the northern section of the park near Jamboree Road and Chapman Avenue about 3:15 p.m., was illegal fireworks, but no immediate arrests were made, he said.
No injuries were reported, and no structures were damaged. McKeown said ground crews would remain on the scene throughout the day.
