One week after he stood on the sidelines in street clothes, Jared Goff will be in uniform for the Los Angeles Rams home opener on Sunday at the LA Memorial Coliseum.
Head Coach Jeff Fisher made the announcement after practice on Friday when he simply held up two fingers to tell reporters that Goff would be the backup quarterback behind Case Keenum when the team plays their first game at the Coliseum against the Seattle Seahawks.
"He's gonna be two," Fisher told reporters. "I talked to you guys about potentially alternating it and we're going to do it that way. Jared's really excited about it. It's exciting for me knowing that he's just a snap away from entering the game."
Goff was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, but after some early growing pains in training camp and the preseason, he was made inactive for the team's first game on Monday Night Football against the San Francisco 49ers.
Sean Mannion filled in as the backup in the Rams embarrassing, 28-0, shutout loss to Chip Kelly's Niners, and now it's likely his turn to be in street clothes come Sunday.
"I haven't been told yet," Mannion said of the news after practice, although he admitted it was expected. "All I can do is support Case [Keenum], support Jared [Goff] and wait for my opportunity."
Goff told the media at his locker after practice that he knew earlier in the week that he would likely be named the backup and he reiterated Fisher's plan to possibly alternate backup quarters throughout the season.

"They told me earlier in the week and I've been preparing the same way I have been the last two weeks," Goff said. "They do a good job of throwing me in there every once in a while. It's been good. I'm gonna support Case, but obviously anything can happen."
However, with the Rams looking like a lower tier team as far as the NFL's elite is concerned, Goff needs to be active and able to play in the event that the Rams find themselves at the losing end of a blowout late in the game.
Fans in Los Angeles are clamoring for Goff to see the field, especially after his starring role in HBO's "Hard Knocks," this summer. If Keenum performs poorly in Week 2, the chatter to see Goff may reach a fever pitch within the sacred confines of the Coliseum.
