“Jennifer Deserved More Than That:” Family of Woman Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver

"It's just not fair and for someone to do it like this to just drive off... Jennifer deserved more than that," her cousin said.

A woman that was killed when a hit-and-run driver crashed into her Wednesday night in Riverside County is being called a good wife and mother.

Family members spent Thursday afternoon at the crash site wondering how anyone could leave the 36-year-old on the side of the road to die.

"It's just not fair and for someone to do it like this to just drive off... Jennifer deserved more than that," her cousin said, Wendy Grable.

Jennifer Blakley was walking southbound along Sultanas Street in Homeland just before 10:30 p.m. with her friend Vickie Rood, 37.

A driver in a black Ford Mustang traveling on the roadway veered towards the women and struck the women from behind, according to the California Highway Patrol.

It was unclear what caused the driver to veer off the roadway and at what speed the car was traveling, officials said.

Blakley died from her injuries and Rood was taken to a nearby hospital with "major injuries."

Blakley leaves behind a 10-year-old son , 17-year-old daughter and husband.

"I loved her laugh, I loved her smile, I just loved everything about her," her son said, Anthony Campbell.

The crash was being handled as a "homicide investigation until we get answers from the driver," CHP Officer Travis Monks said.

The tragedy for Blakley's husband, Scott Campell,  adds onto the heartache he and the family suffered two years ago when the couple lost their twin boys at birth.

Scott and Anthony had a message for the driver.

"I just want him to turn himself in," Scott said.

"I want to say to that person... why would you do this to me?" Anthony asked.

Officers were looking for the driver and the car with major front end damage that may also have a loud exhaust.

The car was last seen heading eastbound on Highway 74.

Officials were asking anyone with information to call 951-637-8000.
