Lakers owner Dr. Jerry Buss was hospitalized for dehydration Monday night, the team said in a statement.
"In response to media inquiries and to dispel rumors and inaccurate reports, we’d like to state that Dr. Buss is in a local hospital where he is being treated for dehydration," Lakers spokesman John Black said. "He is recovering and is expected to be released soon."
Buss, 78, was hospitalized last year with blood clots in his legs due to excessive travel.
He purchased the Lakers in 1979 and under his ownership the franchise has won 10 NBA titles. Recently, Buss put his son Jim in charge of more of the team’s day-to-day operations.
