KKK Propaganda Found on Lawns of Several Whittier Homes

Bags containing KKK fliers were discovered at several homes on a residential street

Bags containing Ku Klux Klan propaganda were found on the front lawns of several Whittier homes early Sunday, authorities said.

A resident in the 5400 block of Adele Avenue called police around 6:25 a.m. to report finding a KKK flier inside a plastic bag weighed down by Tootsie Rolls and small rocks, said Whittier police Lt. Aaron Ruiz..

The fliers did not contain threats, police said, but did list a North Carolina phone number which, when called, played a voicemail message that referenced last week's mass shooting in Charleston.

Residents said that the fliers were distributed within an eight-block radius around Whittier, a racially diverse neighborhood.

"I opened [the bag] and it happened to have a Tootsie Roll and two rocks and this awful, awful letter," resident Stella Paquin said. "It was very discriminatory."

The incident comes a week after about a hundred bags containing KKK leaflets, rocks and Tootsie Pops were found scattered in two Fullerton neighborhoods.

Within the last year, KKK fliers have also been found in Santa Ana and Orange.
