Victim's Stepsister, Boyfriend Charged With Murder, Kidnapping

The suspects were arrested about 10 days after the discovery of a body in brush north of Los Angeles and the abduction of the victim's three children

A woman and her boyfriend were charged with murder and kidnapping Thursday in the death of the woman's stepsister, who was found dead in northern Los Angeles County.

Britney Sue Humphrey, 22, and Joshua Aaron Robertson, 27, are charged in the killing of 26-year-old Kimberly Harvill. The Fresno woman was found dead in brush by a motorist traveling along Gorman Post Road, north of State Route 138.

She had been shot in the upper body, the sheriff's department said.

The kidnapping charges stem form the abduction of Harvill's young children -- ages 5, 3 and 2. The suspects allegedly abducted the children after killing Harvill, then fled to Colorado.

The children were found safe about 10 days after the abduction in a motel outside Albuquerque, New Mexico, in the care of an individual who notified local law enforcement, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The suspects were arrested a day later. If convicted, each defendant faces up to life in prison.

Robertson is due to be arraigned Friday. Prosecutors will ask that bail be set at $2 million, according to the Los Angeles County Attorney's office.

The criminal complaint also alleges that Robertson was convicted in Fresno County in 2014 of being a felon in possession of a firearm and evading a pursuing peace officer. Robertson was on post-release community supervision, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

He is charged with a felony count of possession of a firearm by a felon with two priors.

Humphrey is awaiting extradition in Colorado.
