Knott's Spooky Farm: Daytime Family Fun

The daytime, not-scary celebration happens every weekend day, through Halloween, beginning on Sept. 30 (plus on Halloween itself).

Halloween candy runs the gooey, sugary, flavor-wide gamut, as any sweets-stuffed store aisle will currently tell you.

Some classic goodies hail from the lollipop end of the spectrum, others are straight-up candy corns, and the miniature candy bars? They have their own nutty, nougatty vibe going.

Likewise, Halloween events can widely differ, with screamy, dare-to-enter mazes reigning by nighttime and pumpkin-patch-y pursuits ruling the day.

Knott's Spooky Farm presented by Hershey's, the sweeter sibling to the fright-tastic Knott's Scary Farm, is a daytime, made-for-families festival that is all about the gentler, unfearsome expression of the holiday.

It opens at the Buena Park theme park on Saturday, Sept. 30 and continues every weekend through the end of October.

Plus? You can visit on Halloween day, Oct. 31, too, which is a Tuesday in 2017.

The activities have been created for kids ages 3 to 11, with Trick-or-Treating in Ghost Town, the Creepy Critters of Calico hosted by Stanley Scarecrow, and a Peanuts Costume Contest all on the not-so-scary schedule.

At Fiesta Village, it's all about the merriment of Día de los Muertos. Tots can sit for a face painting session or take part in a host of educational to-dos.

And over at the Timber Mountain Log Ride? It's a Halloween Hootenanny, complete with an appearance by the Calico Coffin Creeper Band and the Green Witch.

Halloween fun times, like the candy that's synonymous with this time of the year, come in many flavors, and younger fans of the holiday also like to celebrate. Celebrate, of course, without the intensity and fright-delivering moments that the after-sundown experiences can deliver to adults seeking out such scares and jumps.

So where to find a cute, atmospheric, no-jumps-here joyful take on the eerie occasion? At Knott's Berry Farm, in Buena Park, every weekend from Sept. 30 through Oct. 29, and Halloween, too.
