Bratton Accepts Job to Help Britain Control Gang Violence

Former LAPD Chief William Bratton tells NBC4 that he has accepted a job as a consultant in Britain to try to help control gang violence there.
Bratton said Friday afternoon that he spoke to Prime Minister David Cameron and expects to begin the job soon. He's got plenty of experience in Boston, New York and Los Angeles. And Bratton thinks some of the same problems plague London.
"Too many young people in that country are basically thugs," said Bratton.
The post will be as a long-term consultant, and is not specifically aimed at addressing the violence that has recently erupted there. Bratton says he won't begin the work for at least a week or so.
Bratton was LAPD Chief for nearly seven years. He also led police departments in New York and Boston.
The project will be conducted by Bratton's Manhattan-based private security firm, Kroll, and will focus on the broader problem of gang violence.
Hundreds of people have been arrested in London and elsewhere amid rioting that began after a fatal police shooting.
The former police chief says he is not moving overseas permanently.
