$75K Reward Approved in Slaying of High School Football Coach

The family of high school football coach Eddy Marshall Lewis Jr. hopes reward will motivate anyone with information to come forward

The Los Angeles City Council has approved a $75,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for killing a high school football coach.

Eddy Marshall Lewis Jr., 28, was driving a friend on Oct. 25 near Hoover and 84th streets in South LA and stopped his vehicle to allow the friend to get out.

As the friend got out of the vehicle, shots were fired from the sidewalk, striking both Lewis and his friend, according to Los Angeles Police Department officials.

The friend, Anthony Alexander Jr., managed to escape to a nearby residence. Lewis died at the scene.

Lewis coached football at Morningside High School in Inglewood.

"With the senseless killing of Eddy Lewis Jr., I just wanted to let you know he touched many lives within our community," LAPD Sgt. Derwin Henderson, who coached Lewis in high school and was a close friend, said at the council meeting. "Actually finding out who killed Eddy would mean stopping another senseless homicide."

Anyone with information in the case is asked to call 213-485-1383.
