LA County Coroner's Employee Accused of Sexually Battering Coworker

A Los Angeles County Coroner's Office employee was arrested Thursday in the alleged sexual battery and harassment of a female coworker last year, police said.

Ryan Hays, 46, is accused of sexually battering the woman, who works as a coroner investigator, at the office on Jan. 4, 2015, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. He's also accused of repeatedly sending her lewd and obscene photos.

Hays faces one charge of sexual battery, one count of exposure of private parts and six counts of harassment, police said.

Hays, a nine-year employee of the coroner's office, had been on paid administrative leave during the investigation, but his pay was taken away after the charges were filed Dec. 31, coroner's spokesman Ed Winter said.

Winter said he had no knowledge of any other disciplinary problems with Hays. It was unclear if Hays had an attorney.

Detectives with the LAPD's elite Robbery-Homicide Division, Special Assault Section were investigating the case.
