Car Fleeing Police Slams Into Vehicle, Injuring Its Driver

A driver suffered serious head injuries after a crash with a vehicle leading police on a pursuit through Los Angeles early Saturday morning, officials said.

Officers were chasing a car that may have been linked to a fatal shooting near Western Avenue and 56th Street, according to a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman. The car collided with another vehicle near Grammercy Place and Second Avenue, in the Koreatown area, at about 12:45 a.m., police said.

The force of the crash ejected the driver of the bystanding vehicle, causing them serious head injuries. They were taken to a trauma center, police said.

Firearms were found inside the car being pursued, and its three occupants matched a description of suspects given in the shooting, according to police. The occupants were being detained.

The shooting, in which the victim was pronounced dead on-scene, was being investigated by the LAPD's gang unit and detectives were investigating whether the occupants of the car were involved in the shoting, police said.
