UPDATE: A person of interest was taken into custody Thursday in connection with a caught-on-camera hit-and-run crash involving police officer in Pacific Palisades the night before, according to a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department.
The unidentified officer suffered multiple fractures in one leg and was listed Thursday in good condition at a hospital.
Gas station surveillance video captured the alleged hit-and-run driver who struck a Los Angeles police motorcycle on Pacific Coast Highway Wednesday night, police said.
The officer was struck at Sunset Boulevard and PCH about 7:51 p.m., according to the LAPD. The motorcycle skid down PCH about 60 feet, police said.
The alleged driver, in a silver Mercedes convertible, can be seen in surveillance video pulling into a nearby gas station shortly after striking the officer. The driver then gets out and appears to examine the damage on the front end of the car.
The car is shown driving away from the gas station.
The officer was taken to UCLA Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Police were still searching for a Mercedes with California plate #6YIP620 as of 12:15 a.m. Thursday.
