Chicago Police arrested 38 offenders and shut down two gang-controlled drug markets following two unrelated investigations, officials said.

A Los Angeles police officer was arrested Monday on suspicion of committing lewd acts on two children in Castaic, authorities said Monday.

Officer Miguel Schiappapietra, 28, was accused of sexually abusing two children who were not related to him, according to Sgt. Brian Hudson of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Special Victim's Bureau.

Schiappapietra was an officer at the LAPD's Foothill Division. He has been with the department since March 2007, said LAPD spokesman Richard French.

Additional details about the crime and Schiappapietra's role at the department were not immediately released.

Sheriff's deputies arrested Schiappapietra on Saturday morning at his Castaic home. On Monday, he was jailed at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station on $100,000 bail, according to booking records.

He was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday morning at San Fernando Superior Court.
