Trio of Armed Robberies Hits Valley Nail Salons

The latest incident went down at about 4:30 p.m. at a salon near the corner of Magnolia and Van Nuys boulevards, police say.

An armed robbery at a Sherman Oaks nail salon Thursday afternoon marked the third time in two weeks that a nail salon in the area has been robbed at gunpoint.

The latest incident went down at about 4:30 p.m. at a salon near the corner of Magnolia and Van Nuys boulevards, LAPD Van Nuys officials told NBC4.

Purses were taken from people inside the salon during the takeover-type robbery involving a man and a woman, police said. No injuries were reported.

Still, customers inside at the time said they feared for their lives.

"I'm thinking, just be calm, just be calm, because freaking out is not going to help anything," said one customer, who did not want to be identified. "One girl was freaking out, so yeah, it was scary."

Another woman, who also did not want to be identified, said she "got the weirdest feeling in my body," and said the pair demanded purses, money and cellphones and the woman gathered up customers' belongings.

Police were searching Thursday night for a suspect, who reportedly carried a handgun, LAPD spokeswoman Officer Karen Rayner told the LA Daily News.

Surveillance cameras likely captured the suspect on video, police said.

Officials said it was not immediately clear if a recent string of armed robberies in that area are connected.

On July 24, a nail salon in the 100 block of N. Victory Boulevard was robbed at gunpoint, according to Burbank police.

Days later on July 27, another armed robbery went down less than two miles away in the 1200 block of N. San Fernando Boulevard, police said.

In those incidents, two men and one women were reportedly involved, police said.
