LASD Deputy Injured in Crash Near Whittier

A Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy was injured Sunday in a two-car wreck near Whittier that left a patrol car wrapped around a pole, authorities said.

The collision was reported near Valley View Avenue and Telegraph Road in the unincorporated area of South Whittier Heights, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The female deputy was heading west on Telegraph Road in the number three lane when she was struck by a Lexus sedan that was making a left turn from eastbound Telegraph onto northbound Valley View Boulevard, said Deputy Kimberly Alexander.

The force of the collision caused the patrol vehicle to strike a signal pole and wrap itself around it.

The deputy was trapped in the wreckage of a patrol car and had to be rescued. She was taken to a hospital in unknown condition.

The deputy was hospitalized with stable injuries, Alexander said.

The second driver involved was able to get out of her car and was OK, authorities said. It wasn't immediately known if the driver would be cited or arrested.
