Deputy Shoots, Kills Man Who Allegedly Threatened to “Bash Their Heads In”

No deputies were injured

A man was shot and killed by a sheriff's deputy in Whittier Wednesday night after authorities said he was swinging a metal stick and threatening to "bash their heads in," according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The shooting happened around 11:40 p.m. in the 12000 block of Rose Hedge Drive, an unincorporated section of Whittier, LASD officials said.

Detectives responding to a "family disturbance" call arrived to find a man described as "drunk, arguing and damaging property," officials said.

The man came out from the residence and allegedly said to deputies that "he was going to bash their heads in," and then went back inside, authorities said. The man then came back outside and allegedly swung a metal stick at a deputy and struck him in the arm, officials said.

The deputy fired his gun and shot the man in the upper torso, officials said. Another deputy used a stun gun on the man.

The man, only described as being 47 years old, died at the scene, authorities said. The injured deputy was treated at a hospital for bruising and contusions to his arm.
