A group of homeless students from Los Angeles got a reward Thursday for perfect school attendance under less than ideal circumstances.
Two-hundred-and-fifty homeless boys and girls were given free school supplies, including clothes, shoes and backpacks on a trip to Universal Studios Thursday.
They were given the supplies by hundreds of volunteer employees of Universal Studios in its "Universal Day of Giving," the 10th held by the company.
"It's time, it's giving back, it's setting the example for other companies that you really need to give," said Dorothea Scattaglia, director of Director, Employee Services, Wellness & Community Relations at Universal Studios Hollywood.
The kids were told that they received the trip because they had perfect attendance -- which is true -- but they also share another trait: they're all considered homeless by the LAUSD.
13,000 LAUSD students are homeless, according to the district.
