There's big changes coming to the menu for L.A.'s public school kids: flavored milk is out.
L.A. School District Superintendent John Deasy announced on the Jimmy Kimmel Live show last night they're dumping Chocolate and Strawberry-Flavored milk because it contains too much sugar.
Jamie Oliver, host of ABC's "Food Revolution," has won his long fought battle with the Los Angeles Unified School District. Oliver has been trying to get schools across the country to eliminate sugary and poorly nutritious foods from their menus. Convincing the LAUSD to make the changes has been a big challenge for Oliver. But now it seems there has been a meeting of the minds. Last night, the Celebrity Chef and the new head of the la school district sat down for an interview with ABC'S Jimmy Kimmel.On the show, LAUSD Superintendent John Deasy, announced that L.A. schools will no longer serve chocolate and strawberry-flavored milk. The district says it has upgraded its menu and was already considering dumping flavored milk because of the added sugar. (Published Tuesday, May 10, 2011)
Deasy was on the show with Celebrity Chef Jamie Oliver, who has criticized the L.A. school system's food choices for students on his reality show "Food Revolution."
The flavored milk is expected to be removed from the menu's immediately, said Deasy.
