LAX Busiest Airport in America for Thanksgiving

Travelers are being warned to prepare for delays as weather worsens in East Coast cities

For the second Thanksgiving in a row, LAX is expected to be the busiest of the nation's airports as a brutal winter storm in the East Coast threatens travel plans.

Officials predict nearly 2 million passengers will pass through over the next five days — a 5 percent increase from 2013 — with Sunday and Monday predicted to be the busiest days.

"People have been leaving throughout the week to get to their destinations, but everybody's got to come back," said Mary Grady of Los Angeles World Airports. "That's all going to happen on Sunday and that's all going to happen on Monday."

Many flights are expected to be more than 90 percent full, an increase possibly due to airlines adding more flights and using larger aircrafts with more seats.

Travelers are being warned to prepare for delays as weather worsens in East Coast cities.

"As the day progresses, as the storm continues to get worse on the East Coast, we do anticipate that we will be seeing some more delays and potentially some cancellations," Grady said.

Travelers are advised to check with their airlines before their flight and to arrive early.
